Quick Reference

(ALI)

A specialist inspectorate whose function was the inspection of adult education provision and work‐based learning for 16–19‐year‐olds. Created in 2000 and operational from 2001, it had its own chief inspector. In colleges of further education its specialist remit meant that it shared responsibility for inspections with Ofsted (then the Office for Standards in Education). On 1 April 2007, following the reorganization of inspectorates embodied in the Education and Inspections Act 2006, ALI was incorporated into the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services, and Skills.
