An influential organization with a membership consisting primarily of academic accountants. Originally founded in 1916 as the American Association of University Instructors in Accounting, the Association adopted its present name in 1936. The Association has contributed to the development of accounting theory through the publication of reports, papers, and journals (notably The Accounting Review) and gives a number of awards.
