Quick Reference

A proapoptotic protein (Bcl-2-interacting killer, natural born killer, Nbk/Bik, 160 aa) of the bcl-2 family, that antagonizes adenovirus E1B 19 kD-mediated inhibition of apoptotic cell death. Bik has a BH3 domain and apparently regulates a bax, Bak-dependent endoplasmic reticulum pathway that contributes to mitochondrial apoptosis. Loss of Nbk/Bik is a common feature of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma.
