Quick Reference

Glasshouses were established in Bristol in the 1740s and specialized in a deep blue coloured glass, made into decanters and goblets, often decorated with gilding. Isaac Jacobs is known to have worked as a gilder in Bristol in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and a few pieces bear his signature. The term ‘Bristol’ glass is often used erroneously to describe any coloured glass made during this period.
