son of Charles Bulfinch (1763–1844), a noted Boston architect, was the author of The Age of Fable (1855), a popular treatment of classic myths and also Scandinavian, Celtic, and Oriental myths. Other works include The Age of Chivalry (1858) on Arthurian and Welsh legends, Shakespeare Adapted for Reading Classes (1865), and Oregon and Eldorado (1866), treating a sea expedition to the Pacific Northwest which his father helped to organize.
