An acronym for Children in Distress, primarily a network of African nongovernmental organizations with a major focus on children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. See http://www.cindi.org.za. The initial letters formerly were used by the Center for Integration of Natural Disaster Information, operated by the US National Geological Survey and focused mainly on earthquakes, hurricanes etc. CINDI also stands for Countrywide Integrated Noncommunicable Disease Intervention.
