Syn: anthracosis. The common dust disease of coal miners, also called black lung, often combined with silicosis if the coal seams are mixed with rock that has to be removed by blasting. In the past, this was very common in all coal mining communities. Its prevalence has been reduced by improved methods of clearing coal dust from the air in mines.
