A German NT scholar who taught at Göttingen; his work on Luke–Acts was influential. He maintained in that work that the structure of salvation‐history has three periods: 

1. from the creation to John the Baptist;

2. the ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ;

3. from Pentecost to the parousia.
