(Berlin, 1801–77, Karlsruhe), nephew of the actor Ludwig Devrient (1784–1832), went on the stage and became producer of the Dresden Court Theatre in 1844 and director of the Karlsruhe Court Theatre in 1852. His first, and best-known, dramatic work is the libretto to Marschner's opera Hans Heiling (1833), but Die Gunst des Augenblicks (1835) and Die Verirrungen (1837) also had stage success. Eduard Devrient wrote a Geschichte der deutschen Schauspielkunst (1848–74).
