The head of the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office (RCPO), who is appointed by the Attorney‐General and discharges his functions under the superintendence of the Attorney‐General. The Director is responsible for the institution and conduct of criminal proceedings in England and Wales relating to a criminal investigation by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and for providing advice in relation to such investigations. He may delegate those functions to a Revenue and Customs Prosecutor. The Director must have a ten year general qualification within the meaning of s 71 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990.
