The common-law crime of attempting to influence a jury corruptly in favour of one party in a trial by promises, persuasions, entreaties, money, entertainments, or the like. Although still an offence, the conduct envisaged is now dealt with by either perverting the course of justice or contempt of court (Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 s 51).
