Quick Reference

Fictitious king of Munster during the time of Conchobar mac Nessa, sometimes only of Thomond (western Munster), euhemerized from Eochaid (1), the sun-god; some texts describe him as sharing Munster with Cú Roí. He was given a pedigree going all the way back to Íth son of Bregon by imaginative genealogists. In an echo of his derivation from Eochaid the sun-god, he is usually described as having only one eye, a defect that would have disqualified him from kingship in any other province. Temair Luachra is given as his residence, but it is also ascribed to Cú Roí. Possibly identical with Eochaid (6). In some documents he is confused with Tétbannach mac Luchta.
