Also known as Baba Farid. A seminal personality in the medieval Indian mystical tradition, the Sufi saint and poet consolidated the Chishti order, and his verses elevated Punjabi to a literary status. Numerous Punjabi tribes attribute their conversion to him, and his shrine in Ajodhan (presently Pakpattan, Pakistan) is a major pilgrimage center.
