The post‐Mycenaean period when, with the Dorian invasions, the Iron Age was fully established throughout Greece and the country had settled again after a period of turmoil and population movement. A sub‐Mycenaean, followed by a proto‐Geometric Period, is transitional to the Geometric Period proper, which in Athens runs from about 900 bc to 700 bc. The period is characterized by its well‐shaped pottery, later incorporating animal and human figures.
