John Bruce Glasier was born in Glasgow on 25 March 1859 and died in London on 4 June 1920. The son of a farmer and cattle dealer from Ayrshire in Scotland, he was trained as an architectural draftsman and worked in various drafting offices in Glasgow. In 1893 Glasier married Katharine Conway and the pair embarked upon a shared career as platform speakers and journalists promoting socialism.
