Quick Reference

A set of guidelines produced by committees of the American Chemical Manufacturers Association, setting out procedures for the use and safe disposal of potentially toxic or hazardous manufactured chemicals such as pesticides. The fact that the industry has sponsored these guidelines demonstrates recognition that many chemicals are potentially or actually harmful to health, but the statements tend toward the platitudinous, and some epidemiologists and other public health workers believe that the industry and the public would be better served by developing safer products. Similar guidelines have been developed in other industries, e.g., good agricultural practices.

Subjects: Public Health and Epidemiology.
