English mathematical statistician specializing in Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods. Green obtained his BA in mathematics from Oxford U in 1971 and his PhD in probability and statistics from Sheffield U in 1976. From 1974 to 1978 he was on the faculty of U Bath, moving to Durham U in 1978 and to U Bristol in 1989. He was awarded the Guy Medal in Bronze of the RSS in 1987, and in Silver in 1999. He was President of the Society in 2001 and was elected FRS in 2003.
