(1863–1936) Born in Liverpool, England, Frank Hornby was the inventor of the world famous educational construction toy Meccano. Originally a book-keeper to David Elliott, a Liverpool-based meat importer, he persuaded the latter to provided the capital for his new venture. Hornby's company also manufactured other toys including chemistry kits (Kemex), electrical kits (Elektron), Hornby model trains, and later Dinky Toys (model cars).
