A document produced by the Centre for Studies in Inclusive Education (CSIE). It outlines a series of indicators of inclusion which form guidance for developing policy, practice, and culture. The CSIE promotes a move away from segregated education. The index for inclusion describes how good education and good social sense uphold human rights. There is a Charter for Inclusion which was first written in 1989 and was rewritten in 2002. Typically, schools will use the index to support self‐review and to identify barriers to learning. It contains comprehensive definitions for inclusion. The index upholds the rights of all individuals to be educated locally and recommends the training of staff to support the development of an inclusive ethos and practice.
