He acts as host to the man he believes to be the king of Poland, only to find that he is really Cavalier di Belfiore, who wishes to marry Kelbar's niece. Created (1840) by Raffaele Scalese. [note: At the 1981 Wexford Festival this role was sung by Sesto Bruscantini. He also produced the opera, which was shown to be a true buffo piece, well worth performance.]
