A distinctive forest formation, found within tropical rain-forest regions of south-eastern Asia, and also in the Caribbean region, growing over limestone hills (karst). There are a few endemic (see endemism) genera (e.g. the palm Maxburretia) and numerous endemic species restricted to limestone forests in Malesia.
