US Republican statesman, 25th President of the USA (1897–1901). He supported US expansion into the Pacific, fighting the Spanish–American War of 1898 which resulted in the acquisition of Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Philippines as well as the annexation of Hawaii. He was assassinated by an anarchist.
