Quick Reference

(NAC)

A heterodimeric component (α 215 aa, β ~150 aa) of cytoplasmic ribosomes, that interacts with nascent polypeptides and prevents those without a signal sequence from being directed to the endoplasmic reticulum. The β subunit is a transcription factor (basic transcription factor 3b). NAC is highly conserved, and mutations cause embryonic lethality in mice.
