A wide-ranging order under the Family Law Act 1996 restraining a person (the respondent) from attacking or going near someone associated with the respondent (such as a cohabitant, spouse, or parent) or from otherwise doing what the court orders him not to do. Breach of such an order is a criminal offence under the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004. See also domestic violence; molestation.
