A series of NASA satellites, which studied ultraviolet, X-ray, and gamma-ray emission from the Sun during an entire solar cycle. Eight were launched between 1962 and 1975. Among their discoveries were the first observations of gamma rays from solar flares, and bursts of hard X-rays and ultraviolet emission at the impulsive stage of flares.
