Quick Reference

A highly glycosylated plasma protein (α1-seromucoid, α1-acid glycoprotein, 210 aa, 0.6–1.2 mg/mL), one of the acute phase proteins, of which there are three phenotypes, SS, FF, and FS, (electrophoretically slow and fast) determined by two codominant alleles and that vary between populations. A second isoform, orosomucoid 2, is present at about one-third of the concentration of orosomucoid 1. Orosomucoid probably acts as a carrier for basic compounds in plasma.
