placement order

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A court order introduced by the Children and Adoption Act 2002 that authorizes a local authority to place a child who is under a care order for adoption with prospective adopters. The placement order will give parental responsibility to the local authority and to the prospective adopters with whom the child is placed. Normally the consent of a parent or guardian is required before an order can be made; however, consent can be dispensed with if the court considers that it is in the best interests of the child to do so. The placement order will last until an adoption order is made, or until it is revoked. See feature Adoption Law.
