A society founded in 1909 (as the Poetry Recital Society) for the promotion of poetry and the art of speaking verse, and sponsored by many literary figures including G. Murray, A. P. Graves, Sturge Moore, Gosse, Newbolt, Arnold Bennett, E. V. Lucas, and A. C. Benson. Its journal, Poetry Review, founded 1912; its first editor was H. E. Monro, and its contributors have included most of the notable British 20th‐cent. poets.
