Dance originating in Bohemia in the early 19th century. It is performed in quick duple time, and takes the form of step, step, step, hop. It was popular in European ballrooms and found its way onto the ballet stage in the 1840s when Maria and Eugene Coralli danced a polka at the Paris Opera.
