Quick Reference

According to Patañjali's Yoga Sūtra, pratyāhāra—the withdrawal of the senses from the objects of sense—is the fifth of the ‘outer limbs’ of his aṣṭāṅga-yoga (‘eight-limbed yoga’), and one of the prerequisites for more advanced practice. The yogin is to detach himself from the distracting activities and experiences of the sense-organs in order to concentrate on the self.
