prescriptive HRM

Quick Reference

Is writing by HR academics, which advises managers on how to manage effectively and sets out models of good practice. Prescriptive HRM often takes the form of checklists that embody notions of universal best practice in the different fields of employee resourcing, employee development, reward management, employee relations, etc. The alternative to prescriptive HR writing is analytical HRM, which is based on research findings and seeks to describe and explain actual management practice, without necessarily advising managers how to manage better.
