Randle cycle

Quick Reference

A metabolic pathway linking fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Endurance-trained athletes may have a larger than normal concentration of fat oxidation enzymes and other enzymes involved in the Randle cycle. This would give them the ability to delay fatigue by deriving a major portion of their energy from fat metabolism, with a lower rate of lactate formation and sparing muscle glycogen. See also fatmax.
