Quick Reference

An elliptical or polygonal depression, resembling a thumbprint in soft clay, found in a semiregular pattern on the surfaces of meteorites larger than about 100 mm. Regmaglypts are probably caused by the flow of air and the loss of molten fragments by ablation during the meteorite's passage through the atmosphere.
