Other works incl. 11 syms. (1940–84); 3 pf. concs.; 2 vn. concs.; vc. conc.; 5 vn. sonatas (1940–51); 4 vc. sonatas (1943–63); 7 str. qts. (1943–65); Ode to Stalingrad (1947); oratorio Berlin, 13th August (1961–2); and songs. 4th sym. is sub-titled Brasilia. Ballet Zuimaaluti is based on 5th sym. and was cond. by Santoro at CG 1960. Began as atonalist, later wrote in nationalist style. Was for a time admirer of Communist Russia.
