brother of Osbert and Edith Sitwell. His volumes of verse include The People's Palace (1918), Collected Poems (1936), and An Indian Summer (1982). Many of his prose works combine an interest in art and travel; they include Southern Baroque Art (1924) and German Baroque Art (1927); Conversation Pieces (1936); British Architects and Craftsmen (1945); and Bridge of the Brocade Sash (1959), on the arts of Japan. His imaginative prose includes The Dance of the Quick and the Dead (1936) and Journey to the Ends of Time (1959), a macabre and despairing work about the condition of man.
