A dark-coloured striped muscle fibre, especially in muscles involved in standing and walking, that responds more slowly and is less prone to fatigue but capable of less powerful contractions than fast-twitch fibre. US slow-twitch fiber. Also called a slow oxidative fibre or SO fibre.
