Founded on 28 December 1934 at the Hotel Roosevelt, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when 31 individuals signed the constitution. The SAA has since come to represent professional and non‐professional archaeologists in America and is one of the premier archaeological societies in the world. The society publishes the journals American Antiquity and Latin American Antiquity, and holds an annual conference.
