solar interior

Quick Reference

That part of the Sun lying below the deepest visible layer of the photosphere. The solar interior cannot be directly observed, but its structure can be deduced from standard solar models. Such models can be checked against observations of global oscillations, where the agreement is fairly satisfactory; and against the numbers of solar neutrinos, where the agreement is now excellent (see solar neutrino unit).
