A superfamily of giant cytoskeletal linker proteins that bind actin, tubulin, and intermediate filaments. The common features are two calponin homology domains, a plakin domain, a series of plectin repeats, numerous spectrin repeats, and finally a GAS2 domain. The human spectraplakin (macrophin 1, trabeculin-α, actin crosslinking factor 7, 5373 aa) is found in all tissues.
