1 The name given to a metal outrigger to hold a block clear of a mast or off the side of a ship.

2 In the USA it was the name given to a pinrail attached around the mizzen-mast in lieu of fife rails, so as to provide more room to the ship's wheel when located just forward of that mast. It was also known as a spider rail.
