is a global trade union confederation. It was formed in 2006 from the merger of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and the World Confederation of Labour, and represents 166 million workers in 309 affiliated organizations from more than 150 countries. It is the largest trade union organization in the world. The ITUC works closely with global union federations and the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD, with which it has formed the Global Unions Council. The ITUC exists to promote and defend trade unionism and workers' rights on the global stage and represents the interests of workers within the system of international governance. It has close relations with the International Labour Organization and other specialist agencies of the United Nations.
