The main world standards organization. It specifies many standards which are relevant to communications and networking—for example, the Open Systems Interconnection standards—along with myriad other standards ranging from those which describe mechanical devices to those which describe programming languages. The organization is divided into area subcommittees which are further divided into working groups. Each working group has a wide international membership.
