The association or position of one object to another. Centric jaw relation is the most retruded physiologic relation of the mandible to the maxillae, to and from which individual lateral movements can be made. Eccentric jaw relation is any relation of the mandible to the maxillae other than centric relation. The jaw rest relation (position) is the postural relation of the mandible to the maxillae when the patient is in an upright position and the masticatory musculature is in a state of maximum relaxation.
