Ballet in four acts with choreography and libretto by Chabukiani, music by Aleksey Machavariani, and designs by Simon Virsaladze. Premiered 29 Nov. 1957 (some sources 27 Dec. 1957) at the Paliashvili Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tbilisi, Georgia, with Chabukiani (Othello) and Vera Zignadze (Desdemona). Chabukiani re-staged it for the Kirov in 1960 with himself in the title role and Alla Osipenko as Desdemona.
