founded at Chicago by the American poet and critic Harriet Monroe (1860–1936), who edited it until her death. In its early days it published work by E. Pound, A. Lowell, T. S. Eliot, Frost, H. D. (Hilda Doolittle), F. M. Ford, and others, and has continued to publish work by major American poets of the 20th cent.
