Quick Reference

Small mineral spheres observed in 2004 by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity. Despite their nickname, the spherules are grey rather than blue in colour, and are only a few millimetres across. The rover's Mössbauer spectrometer (see mössbauer spectrometry) revealed that the blueberries are rich in hematite.
