An unplanned, unanticipated event leading to damage, injury, or death, commonly classified according to the site of occurrence (traffic, workplace, domestic, recreational). For such events involving road transport the preferred term is traffic crash, which avoids the implication of a random event. Epidemiological study often identifies predictable determinants and causal factors that could be controlled to reduce or eliminate many risks of injury and premature death, especially those in the workplace and those involving traffic.
