1 (Ermione) (Rossini: Ermione). Sop. Wife of Pyrrhus. Her husband marries Andromache, widow of the murdered Hector. Hermione asks Orestes, who loves her, to kill her husband. He does so, but she is furious with him, having changed her mind, realizing she still loves her husband. She has Orestes arrested. Created (1819) by Isabella Colbran (wife of Rossini 1822–37).

2 (Strauss: Die ägyptische Helena). Sop. Daughter of Helen and Menelaus. She is at first forbidden by her father to see her mother, who has been unfaithful with Paris (killed by Menelaus), but her parents are reunited with the aid of the enchantress Aithra and Hermione comes to see her beautiful mother. Created (1928) by Anneliese Petrich.
