Quick Reference

In National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) statements of competence are broken down into their constituent parts, the smallest of which is an element of competence. It is against these elements of competence that the NVQ candidate is assessed. A number of elements make up a unit of competence. Units, but not their constituent elements, may be awarded separately as part of a process of credit accumulation.
