immutability

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A number of currents lead to divine immutability being seen as an aspect of God's perfection. A perfect being cannot change for the better and would not change for the worse; change is associated with the sublunar world, or the world of shadows, or the material as opposed to the spiritual world. However God's immutability is opposed by those who argue for the power of prayer, or those who argue that ability to change is essential to God's omnipotence.
